Constant updates make it worth a daily visit. A sister site to C.H.U.D. devoted to all things horror. Definitely one of the most frequently updated genre sites on the web. Peter M. Bracke's exhaustive overview of the Friday the 13th series looks to be a must-have for every '80s horror fanatic and the definitive look at the most successful horror franchise ever. To hold you over until the book's release in 2005, check out the official site and sign up for the free newsletter. One of the big three movie news/gossip sites along with Ain't It Cool News and Coming Attractions. Typically updated five days a week. One of the top horror sites on the web. Plenty to check out with news, reviews, and interviews. The new home to Creature Corner founder Johnny Butante. Dread Central is affiliated with The Horror Channel so DC will be on the ground floor to some very cool developments in the genre. Who can say no to a site that promises "Horror To The People 24/7"? Not me, bro'! This new site looks to be an enthusiastic champion for the genre, posting reviews of new and old horror films. Do yourself a favor and check it out! The official website of the world's top horror magazine. An excellent, reliable source for news (like Cinescape, they stay away from posting fan rumors). They usually update about once a week and typically have at least one or two items exclusive to them. This is also a good source for new DVD reviews. Proving that there's more to life than horror films, Film Asylum steps outside the genre to be the "Home of Fantastical Cinema". That means they're just as likely to review Spider-Man and The Matrix: Reloaded as they are Day of the Dead. Go and give 'em a read. John Carpenter is my all-time favorite genre filmmaker and this is the biggest site on the web devoted to following his career. This is also a great place to look for links to other Carpenter sites as well as sites devoted to specific Carpenter films. Check out this site that serves as a reference site

progress. Hey, we all love the Halloween movies, right? Well, at least one or two of them. Anyhow, check out this site devoted to the ongoing saga of Michael Myers. Hey, is there anything cooler than the classic monsters? Yeah, I didn't think so. So why not check out this tribute to the Universal greats. Hey, here's a new horror site to check out. It looks like Horror Attic is mostly focused on the "best" of the genre. That means reviews of films that should be a part of every fan's library - Tenebre, Night of the Living Dead, and so on. And it looks like they like some of the newer stuff too, like Jeepers Creepers. If you're looking for some cool horror-themed artwork, look no further. Horror paintings, prints, caricatures, and more are available. Commissioned pieces are also welcome. Check out this well-written blog helmed by horror buff Sergio Martorelli. It's a good read! A web-comic for horror fans! Join Nil's quest for a female horror fan, listen to Willem rant on teeny bop horror, and have some Earl Grey with Dave, a demon and fan of Fulci and Romero. An excellent site that's a must for DVD collectors. Always up-to-date with info and reviews. They typically update several times a week. A new horror site that offers plenty of material to pursue. HOH's best feature is "The Vault" - a cool, nicely designed section devoted to reviews of classic horror films. Check out the wacky world of Matman Comics! It's got plenty to say about all the things we love and live to discuss - primarily comics, music, and TV. There's also exclusive interviews with comic book pros and original comic strips, including the promising "Life With Zombie". Go give it a look! This site comes with our highest recommendation. I like the clean, atypical design of the site itself (guaranteeing that it doesn't look like any other horror site) but the real appeal of Monsters At Play is its body of well-written reviews. Comic book legend (best known as the illustrator for Swamp Thing along with John Totelben during writer Alan Moore's historic run) and genre critic (with articles featured in such mags as GoreZone, Deep Red and Video Watchdog) Steve Bissette's blog is as entertaining, personable and well-informed as you'd expect - just a great read. Check it out! A Nightmare on Elm Street Companion The definitive site for the series that defined the horror genre for a generation. Check it out. The blogspot of G. Michael Dobbs, managing editor of the Western Massachusetts based newspaper Chicopee Herald and their five local publications. Mike's a big genre fan and his freelance writing has appeared in Video Watchdog as well as Rod Serling's Twilight Zone Magazine. He also was an editor on the excellent animation magazines Animato! and Animation Planet. Check out his blog - it may not be genre-specific but you'll still find a lot of stories of interest, and get a glimpse of what life is like here in my local stomping grounds. Whether it be the ironic grisliness of E.C., the madcap Marvel Monsters of the '70s, DC Comics' long-running anthology series House of Mystery and House of Secrets, the classic B&W horror anthologies Creepy and Eerie, or Steve Bissette's groundbreaking late '80s/early '90s anthology Taboo (where Alan Moore's From Hell first appeared) or current series like The Walking Dead, horror comics should be a formative part of any fan's appreciation of the genre. So be sure to give this site - the "#1 source on the Weird World Web for horror comic collectors, fans & enthusiasts" - a look. A new horror mag based out of Rhode Island that's dedicated to "Horror That Leaves Marks". This looks to be a very solid genre mag that'll remind older fans of the '80s era of fanzines and the likes of Toxic Horror and Deep Red. Well written reviews, eclectic articles and a passion for hardcore horror will hopefully give these guys a long run. Go to their site and give 'em some support. I haven't had much time yet to browse through the massive content of this hard rock site (with a healthy side of independent movie reviews) but I like what I've seen so far so take a sec' and check it out for yourself. One of my faves. Hunter and Jason run a cool site with plenty of reviews that cover the best of various sub-genres along with interviews with various genre figures such as director Mark Rosman (House on Sorority Row). Any site that gives props to the likes of Happy Birthday to Me and My Bloody Valentine is all right with me. As a fan of Savini's directing efforts to date (his episodes of Tales from the Darkside were minor gems and - despite its faults - I also loved his Night of the Living Dead remake) so it's great to see him finding a new venue as a storyteller. Click over to Chill Factor and find out about his new direct-to-DVD anthology series. A very welcome addition to the web. Video Watchdog editor Tim Lucas is well known as one of the preeminent critics to focus on horror and fantastic cinema and this site was a must-read from the day it went online. A new site that bills itself as "the B-movie Search Engine" and that's exactly what it is - an excellent database of sites devoted to all the kinds of films we like. This site features classic horror DVD's for sale,
along with reviews.
As they state, True Gore is a place to "find
the strangest most terrifying cinema" and are "dedicated
to great service and the quality unearthing of celluloid trash." They
have lots of great, hard-to-find titles from across the exploitation spectrum
for reasonable prices so give 'em a look! Up-to-date news and reviews from one of the longest-running sites out there. This is a very sharp and intriguing site from Polly Frost. I think any summary of what the site is "about" would sound lame on my part but suffice it to say it gets our highest recommendation. They don't sell import tapes anymore but Video Junkie is still around with news and opinions. They update infrequently but then again they stay away from the typical "big" news, opting for items they find interesting or amusing. So check 'em out and remember - "it's not just a hobby, it's a way of life." A site for the best review mag out there. Not much on the site itself but it's always good to keep up with VW. It's the most indispensable magazine on the stands for video and DVD reviews. "Horror movie reviews from people who watch horror movies." Zombie Keeper lives up to that slogan with new reviews of genre classics every dues-paying fan should be familiar with such as Martin, Halloween, the Phantasm films and so on. They also touch on some of the new stuff so check 'em out. |
